Team Canada at the 2027 IIHF World Championship in Germany
Team Canada at the 2027 Ice Hockey World Championship: group B in Düsseldorf, opponents, history and outlook.
Canada is the most successful nation in World Championship history with 28 gold medals. The last title came in 2023, when Canada beat Germany 5–2 in the final in Tampere.
Recent form
At the 2026 Worlds in Switzerland, Canada reached the semifinals but lost to Finland, then fell 3–2 in overtime to Norway in the bronze medal game. A fourth-place finish means Hockey Canada will be looking for a strong response in Germany.
Group B in Düsseldorf
Canada plays all preliminary round games at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf against the USA, Czechia, Slovakia, Denmark, Norway, Kazakhstan and Hungary. The Canada–USA game is the headline matchup of the group.
How the roster comes together
The World Championship runs alongside the Stanley Cup playoffs, so Canada starts with players from non-playoff NHL teams and adds more as clubs are eliminated. The roster heading into the quarterfinal is often stronger than the opening-day lineup.
